12 isn’t a guarantee, it’s an allowance for natural attrition.

As eggs move through thawing, fertilisation, embryo development and screening, losses are expected. Planning around twelve eggs acknowledges this reality and offers a realistic foundation for future possibilities. Twelve eggs is a medically grounded planning point.

The Right Plan Depends on Egg Numbers

Fertility changes over time; quietly, unevenly, and differently for every woman.
Which is why at Luma, planning isn’t based on cycles, it’s based on egg numbers.

In your late 20s

If egg freezing is on your mind, this is often the most favourable window biologically. Egg quality is typically higher, which means fewer eggs may be needed to achieve your future planning.

In your early 30s

This is when many women start thinking seriously about timelines. Egg freezing here can still be a strong option but planning becomes more important: understanding your response and working towards a meaningful egg number.

In your mid to late 30s, 40s

Clarity matters more than ever. Egg yield per cycle may reduce and attrition tends to increase, which is why it’s important to plan around egg numbers (not assume one cycle is enough).

Egg numbers can also be influenced by - PCOS, Endometriosis, Low egg reserve (low AMH) & Medical treatments (chemotherapy, surgeries, etc.)
Egg freezing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Age shapes the plan.

Future-proof your fertility with TwelveForHerself

Egg freezing shouldn’t be open-ended or confusing.
TwelveForHerself is a transparent, science-led plan designed around outcomes, not cycles.

FAQs

By doing egg freezing, am I wasting eggs for future use?
Not at all. Your body creates a group of eggs each month, and only one can ovulate. Egg freezing helps to preserve some of these eggs that would not have been used.
A good age to freeze your eggs is typically in your late 20s to early 30s. This is when egg quality and quantity are at their peak. But, you can also do it at a later stage depending on your fertility health, which can be checked with the help of female fertility testing.
Frozen eggs can be preserved for many years without losing quality. Advanced methods of vitrification will help eggs remain viable while you wait to use them in the future.
Egg freezing will significantly increase your chances of conceiving; however, the quality of eggs, your age at freezing and general reproductive health will be important factors influencing the overall outcome.
There is no exact number of eggs that you need to freeze, as it depends on age and other medical issues. The recommended number, though, is around 10–20 mature eggs, which effectively increases the chances of a successful pregnancy.
The egg retrieval process is performed under anaesthesia, so there won’t be any pain during the procedure, but mild discomfort and bloating are normal side effects of the process, but temporary.
Egg freezing procedure is a safe one but will carry some side effects. You may experience bloating, nausea and mild discomfort, especially during hormonal injections and egg retrieval. In extremely rare cases, there may be instances of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
Egg freezing starts with a basic AMH test and consultation, followed by ovarian stimulation and the egg retrieval process, and freezing (vitrification) the eggs for long-term storage.
There is no data to suggest egg freezing increases the risk of cancer. In fact, in the extensive research that has been done, there is no evidence linking fertility treatments to cancer.
The hormonal medications during egg freezing are temporary, so no, egg freezing will not cause long-term hormonal imbalances.
Yes! You can thaw the frozen eggs and fertilise them with sperm to create embryos. We will subsequently transfer the embryo when you are ready for pregnancy.
This is a situational option to consider. While embryo freezing has a slightly higher success rate, you will need a sperm source. Egg freezing offers flexibility if you’re not ready to make that decision yet.

Egg Freezing Cost & Location

Egg freezing cost in Mumbai is largely influenced by the location of the clinic, technology employed and the infrastructure. There are other factors as well, such as the patient’s age, number of cycles required and the duration of storing eggs.

Egg Freezing Side Effects & Safety

Once you are aware of what egg freezing is, it is important to understand the potential egg freezing side effects. While the egg freezing process is a safe one, it impacts the body in certain ways, like bloating, nausea, mild discomfort from hormonal injections or during the egg retrieval procedure. These however are temporary effects, which do not last for long.
At Luma, you are in the hands of compassionate and expert doctors who prioritise your safety and comfort. With advanced techniques, close monitoring and minimal invasive retrieval methods, we try to mitigate risks at every step.

Egg Freezing Age Limit & Timing

As is known, age greatly impacts the egg quality and quantity. With a drop in ovarian reserve and the quality of eggs, egg freezing time limit is a major factor influencing the success rate. While there is no age limit for the egg freezing procedure, typically late 20s or early 30s works the best, given that the eggs are at their peak.

Common Concerns on Egg Freezing

If you’re wondering about the egg freezing process, how safe it is, the egg freezing age limit or the egg freezing cost in Mumbai, here we are with answers to some of your concerns.

What is egg freezing and how does it work?

Egg freezing is also called Oocytecryopreservation. This is a fertility preservation technique under the ART Act (Assisted Reproduction Technique Act). The egg freezing process involves stimulation of ovaries to produce multiple eggs of a cycle in a woman’s body, followed by surgical retrieval of the matured eggs. These eggs are then preserved by freezing them in liquid nitrogen and can be thawed and fertilized with sperm to create embryos later when required.
If you wish to start a family later in life, or wish to focus on your career now, the egg freezing process allows you to decide on motherhood at a time of your will.

What is the egg freezing procedure step by step?

The egg freezing procedure is a 4-step process that begins with a fertility assessment, followed by ovarian stimulation with at-home hormone injections that supports optimal egg development. The next step is egg retrieval, which is a quick procedure conducted under light anaesthesia. The egg freezing process concludes with safe storage of the eggs with a timely update on egg quality.

How much does egg freezing cost in Mumbai / India?

Egg freezing cost in India varies based on various factors, primarily the clinic and its infrastructure, freezing technology and other inclusions if any. It may range anywhere from 100,000 to 225,000. Age is one of the factors that may increase the egg freezing cost in India – older the patient, lower is the ovarian reserve, which will require higher doses or multiple cycles for egg retrieval. Similarly egg freezing cost in Mumbai depends on the area, patient’s age, storage duration etc.

What risks or side effects should women expect from egg freezing?

The egg freezing process is usually safe, but it is important to be aware of certain egg freezing side effects. Some women may experience mild discomfort, nausea, bloating, and in rare cases Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). Other egg freezing side effects might be experienced during egg retrieval, like bleeding, reaction to anaesthesia or infection. Egg freezing also reduces the chances of a natural pregnancy, and an IVF might be required in the future.

Will choosing egg freezing reduce the egg reserve?

While multiple eggs are retrieved during egg freezing, it does not reduce your egg reserve. The eggs that are retrieved are the ones that you would have lost during your menstrual cycle. Every month, your body creates multiple eggs, from which only one is released and the rest lost. Egg freezing takes out some of these eggs, hence it does not impact your reserve.

Can I get pregnant naturally after egg freezing?

Definitely, you can get pregnant naturally even after you choose egg freezing because the procedure does not affect your fertility or natural conception. You will have a normal period and will still ovulate and conceive naturally after the process.
